15 minute educational talk about curling to include: (adapted to suit age of children)

  • History
  • Rules of the game
  • Reasons for playing e.g. health and fitness, team work and social.
  • The forces involved in curling
  • Anatomy
  • Health and safety on the ice


On ice activities (adapted to suit age of children) Maximum of 8 children to 1 coach

  • 15 – 20 minute lesson on the skills required to be a successful curler
  • Further explanation of the rules and positions
  • Brushing
  • Throwing of the stones
  • Curling of the stone
  • Tactics and signals
  • Transportation of the stones


Games

  • Having completed and gained a basic understanding of the above the children are now ready to try out the newly acquired skills in game format.
  • The group will be split into 8 teams with 3 or 4 members in each team (dependant on numbers)
  • Each team will be given the opportunity to choose a team name.
    The group will be split into two halves with teams playing 3 games against the other teams in their half. Each game will ensure that each member of the team has at least one go in each of the three positions.
  • Once these three games have been completed there will be grading games with the 1st placed team from one group playing the first places team from the opposite group and so on. (possible small prizes for the winners)
  • Upon completion of the session children will be given the opportunity to ask any questions that may have arisen throughout the duration of the activities and a closing down de-brief will be conducted.
