| Sporting masterclass for ice hockey hopefuls | Sporting masterclass for ice hockey hopefulsAspiring ice hockey stars will be given a masterclass in the sport at a series of special training camps in Sheffield.The first of three Best of British Ice Hockey Camps (BOBIHC) will take place at iceSheffield from 30 March to 4 April.Six-day camps will also take place at the Sheffield International Venues (SIV) facility on August 10 and 17. Youngsters will receive expert coaching from Pasi Raitenen, netminder for the Sheffield Scimitars, and Matt Darlow, head coach of the Sheffield U18’s at iceSheffield.They will cover a range of training programmes including a novice hockey school, development camp, elite camp and goalie programme.Paul Heavey, Best of British director of coaching, said: “This is our third camp series at iceSheffield and the interest in our camps from the UK ice hockey contingent continues to get bigger each year, with many travelling a long distance to attend. “We aim to structure our camps in a way that teaches the basic fundamentals of ice hockey following systematic skill building progressions in an environment where players will feel challenged, encouraged and confident but most importantly have fun. Our motto is ‘a week of training for a lifetime of skill’.” Mandy Janes, general manager of iceSheffield, said: “The camps are superbly run and unbelievably popular with kids.
