| Sheffield students target national ice hockey crown |
Sheffield’s students will be hoping for play off success as part of a festival of ice hockey in the city this month.
The Sheffield Bears, which is made up of students from the city’s two universities, will compete at the National Championships and Playoffs taking place at iceSheffield throughout April. The Bears will take on local rivals Nottingham Mavericks in the Division Two Playoff final on Sunday 13 April.
Northern Conference Champions the Mavericks will compete in the Division One Playoff final against the London Dragons, winners of the Southern Conference, on the same day.
The Sheffield Bears will also face university ice hockey teams from across the UK at a series of three National Championships at the Sheffield International Venues (SIV) facility. Kicking off the action is the Tier III National Championships on April 12. Tier II will take place at iceSheffield from April 19 – 20, followed by the Tier I National Championships from April 26 – 27. Andrew Miller, Chairman of BUIHA said:
“It has been a great year with some interesting results in both divisions. We have had a number of new teams participating in our competitions which is great to see. We’re looking forward now to seeing the best of what each division has to offer and I, along with the whole executive committee, wish all sides the best of luck in what is sure to be a great spectacle for university ice hockey.”
Mandy Janes, general manager of iceSheffield, said: “We are delighted to be hosting this high-profile University contest to determine the best team in the country.
It promises to be an action packed month of ice hockey with highly skilled players on display throughout.”
Admission to all BUIHA events is free of charge. |
