Sheffield skate venue to host ice hockey national finals
iceSheffield’s National Ice Hockey Centre of Excellence title will be strengthened this month when the state-of-the-art venue hosts a series of key events. The Sheffield International Venues-managed (SIV) facility will stage 25 ice hockey fixtures over two weekends as part the English Ice Hockey Association (EIHA) National Finals.
The action starts with the EIHA Junior Finals from 17 – 18 May when the top junior teams in the country ranging from under 10s to under 18s will face off for the season finale to find out who is the top team in each individual age group.
It will be followed by the EIHA Ladies Finals from 24 – 25 May which will see the best women’s teams from Division 1 North and South fight it out to become Women’s Division 1 Champion, while the four top teams in the Women’s Premier League battle it out to be winner of the Bill Britton Memorial Trophy. The EIHA Ladies Finals will also feature the inaugural Under 16s Girls Finals. Geoff Hemmerman, chairman of the Women’s League, said: “Our National Finals weekends are the pinnacle of our season and we are delighted to be hosting the fixtures at iceSheffield. The venue has excelled in its support of ice hockey both on and off the ice over the last few years and really helped to raise the profile of the sport.”
The EIHA events will be followed by a Tri-Service Tournament from 4 – 6 June, which is back at iceSheffield for the second consecutive year. Regiments from the Army, RAF and Navy will battle it out to become champions of their proud competition.
