World’s best set for international junior contest in
Sheffield
Ice skating enthusiasts can secure their seat to see some of the world’s best young figure skaters competing in
Sheffield
.
Tickets are now on sale for the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating, hosted by the National Ice Skating Association (NISA) of the
UK
, at iceSheffield from October 18 – 21.
The John Curry Memorial Competition will feature more than 140 of the leading figure skaters from across the world in all the ISU disciplines (singles, pairs and dance).
France,
Austria
,
Romania
,
Estonia
,
Croatia
,
Bulgaria
and
Germany
are also hosting qualifying events as part of the 2007/08 season.
Peter Morrissey, ice development at iceSheffield, which is NISA’s National Ice Centre, said: “It is hugely exciting for both NISA and iceSheffield to be hosting this high profile, international event which will be a real spectacle of figure skating.
“We expect many of the skaters who compete in
Sheffield
to go on to enjoy success at the Junior Grand Prix Final and also excel at senior level.”
This event is supported by Sheffield International Venues, which manages iceSheffield, Sheffield City Council’s Major Sports Events Unit, UK Sport and John Wilson/MK Blades.
It is named after the late John Curry who is acknowledged world wide for transforming ice figure skating as an Olympic sport into an art form. The ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating is a series of eight international high level competitions that allows talented young skaters to compete in the hope of qualifying for the final in December in
