Sheffield skater selected for European ice show
Sheffield-based skater Lauren Taylor has been selected to appear in one of the world’s most famous ice shows.
Lauren, who trains and coaches at iceSheffield, has been chosen to perform in the forthcoming European Holiday On Ice tour – Mystery.
The 22-year-old beat off competition from some of the world’s best skaters at a rigorous audition in
Cardiff where she impressed the judges with her advanced skating skills and quick step work.
Lauren, who is a level 2 qualified coach at the Sheffield International Venues (SIV) facility, is the only
UK skater to win the NISA (National Ice Skating Association) Cup three times in a row. She has also competed at international level for
Great Britain and was the Scottish Junior silver medallist in 2004 and Scottish Champion in 2006.
Lauren, originally from Wybers Wood, in Grimsby, said: “I’ve been a fan of Holiday On Ice ever since I was eight years old when I first started ice skating so it is a dream come true to be selected to perform in the show.
“I’ve skated in professional shows in France,
Spain and
Georgia before but nothing quite on the scale of Holiday On Ice! We’ll be touring ice venues all over
Europe performing about ten shows a week over eight months so it is quite a gruelling schedule.”
Lauren is now preparing to head off to
Holland on October 1 for a week of rehearsals before the Mystery tour, choreographed by Olympic skating Champion Robin Cousins, MBE, starts in
France on October 9.
“Since moving to the city four years ago to be able to train at iceSheffield my skating has really progressed. The facilities here are first class and this selection is another fantastic step forward for my ice development.”
Dawn Peckett, Lauren’s coach at iceSheffield, said: “Everyone at iceSheffield is really proud of Lauren and it is so exciting that she has been chosen to perform in such a massive, world-renowned ice show.
“The
Holiday On Ice shows brings together some of the most advanced techniques and choreography, and only leading skaters are selected for the tour, so it wonderful that Lauren’s talents have been recognised in this way.”
