iceSheffield goes green with new environment team
A leading Sheffield leisure venue has launched a cool new green initiative in a bid to become more environmentally friendly. iceSheffield has set up an Environmental Business Improvement Team which is led by staff and geared towards making the Sheffield International Venues (SIV) facility a ‘greener’ place.
The team will meet monthly to discuss environmental issues at the venue, develop individual tasks for employees and set targets so that everyone can help to achieve the green goals. iceSheffield’s state-of-the-art facilities include special energy saving rink ventilation strategies and low energy, long life lighting, which can be programmed for different activities and occupancy levels.
Mandy Janes, general manager of iceSheffield, said: “It is important that every one does their bit to help the environment, and iceSheffield is no different. We currently have a number of energy saving features in place within the venue and we recycle paper, ink cartridges and cooking oil from the kitchens, but we are keen to do even more to help the environment. “The Improvement Team has already come up with a number of ideas including the creation of a giant iceSheffield wall made out of recycled plastic bottles. “We are committed to being as green as possible and ensuring that iceSheffield is an environmentally friendly venue for years to come.”
