Ice Queen Karla opens cool new store
Sheffield-based skate star Karla Quinn has unveiled a cool new ice sports store in the city.
The 19-year-old, who recently qualified for the 2008 British Senior Championships, officially opened the new Puck Stop shop based inside iceSheffield.
Karla, a member of iceSheffield’s International Skating Academy of Excellence, took time out of her training schedule to help launch the dedicated ice sports store.
It is designed to cater for both novice and elite ice skaters and ice hockey players and sells a wide range of specialist equipment and accessories including more than 450 pairs of ice skates.
Puck Stop is run by the Day family which includes Richard and his brother Craig and their parents Pat and Bryan.
Richard, who plays recreational ice hockey and supports the Sheffield Scimitars, said: “It is fantastic to see the new Puck Stop store up and running. Ice sports have really taken off in Sheffield over the last few years, particularly with the development of such a state-of-the-art facility like iceSheffield and also as a result of programmes like Dancing on Ice.
“It is a great location and the ideal venue for a specialist ice sports store. The new unit will allow us to expand our operations and build on the success of our other Puck Shop store on Staniforth Road and develop the range of equipment and accessories available to ice performers.”
Mandy Janes, general manager of iceSheffield, said: “We are delighted to welcome the Day family to iceSheffield. Puck Stop will be a great addition to iceSheffield and it will provide our local skaters and ice hockey players with easy access to very specialist ice sports equipment.”
