A new generation of talented young skaters will be flying the flag for Sheffield at a prestigious National Championship event in the city.
iceSheffield will have a team of 15 skaters with medal prospects taking part in the National Solo Ice Dance Championships, which are being staged at the Attercliffe-based venue from July 7 – 9.
More than 100 skaters from across the country will be competing in the event at iceSheffield. Each skater will perform a compulsory ice dance followed by an original and or a free dance to music of their own choice.
Peter Morrissey, ice development manager for iceSheffield, which is managed by Sheffield International Venues, said: “This promises to be a hugely exciting event and a great opportunity for our up and coming young skaters to gain valuable competition experience and test themselves against some of the best in the country.”
The event is the first in a series of three key national events at iceSheffield this year. At the end of the summer, the state-of-the-art venue will host the NISA IJS competition (August 31- September 4).
Skaters from across the country can use the event to qualify for the NISA British Championships at iceSheffield (November 23 - 28) where judges will decide which novice, junior and senior skaters will be selected for the 2010 European, world and Olympic Games.
The National Solo Ice Dance Championships start on Tuesday July 7 and run through to July 9.
